General Info & FAQ

What can a family do if they are not happy with the way the body looks?

Your Wade embalmer has years of experience in embalming and preparation of the deceased. In fact, we are known for our excellence in body preparation. However, sometimes due to illness, cause of death and circumstances at time of death, a body is affected in ways that even our skilled embalmers cannot control. Families of the deceased should be aware in advance that certain types of disintegration or damage to a body caused by trauma often cannot be completely disguised. In the event that a family is not pleased with the final preparation, we will gladly listen to your requests and try our best to meet them.

Does the departed have to wear a suit or dress?

Traditional Funeral Services have always been regarded as a "home going" or a return to God. Historically, this has dictated the formal attire that is usually expected for burial. However, a more contemporary approach to funeral services allows final attire to closely reflect the individual's life and personal style. Therefore, it is not unusual to see families bury loved ones in their favorite or most commonly worn attire. This is a personal choice and Wade Funeral Home is happy to accommodate whichever choice you make.

When someone is cremated, what kind of container are the ashes placed in?

Upon completion of cremation process, ashes are placed in a temporary receptacle. Families have a wide array of choices for urns and other types of storage containers for ashes. Click here to see sample urns and for information on cremation.

How does one store ashes?

'Ashes,' is a term that is not completely accurate. Human remains are actually recognizable skeletal fragments - they are not technically ashes. Because they are remains of a loved one they should be treated with ultimate respect and kept in a secure, safe place. Click here to see sample urns.

When is the full balance of a funeral due?

Wade Funeral Home requires full payment 24 hours before the start of the funeral service.

Can I pay for a funeral service over time?

Yes. Funeral service costs can be paid incrementally up to the day of the Funeral service.

What if I don't have a car and need to make arrangements?

Your Wade Funeral Director will be happy to arrange for you to be picked up at your home and taken back after arrangements are made, or we will be happy to consult with you in your home. Click here to request a pick-up or in-home visit.

How can I find out more about pre-need services?

A Wade Funeral Home Pre-Need specialist would be happy to arrange a meeting with you to discuss pre-need options. This meeting can take place at the Wade Funeral Home or at your home. Please call to inquire or click here to request an appointment.

How long will it take me to get over this?

There is no time limit on grief. Losing a loved one will stay with you forever. Death irreversibly affects the living. And although it will become easier to accept the loss of a loved one, the timing is different for everyone. Click here for more information on grief support and resources.

How should children be handled at a funeral? Should they be allowed to see the body? Touch it?

Children should be permitted to participate in funeral services. It is an important part of the acceptance process as well as an important way for a child to offer last respects within the family structure. To shut a child out of this experience would be to deny him or her a significant and meaningful experience, which could have adverse effects on later emotional development. A child should be allowed to view the body, however, they should not be forced, if they are reluctant. Additionally, parents must remain sensitive to a child's reaction when viewing a body, and be prepared to remove the child immediately if it is too upsetting. Adults and children alike should be allowed to gently touch the body, if that is a soothing comfort for them.

Is there a private room at Wade where the family can meet?

Wade Funeral Home will gladly accommodate a family's need to be alone. Please ask your Funeral Director in advance to identify and reserve a space for family time.

Can the viewing (and/or service) be held at home if it was the request of the deceased?

Is it cheaper to have the funeral service during the week rather than on the weekend?
